Proverbs Day 6: “Maximize Your Season”
Scripture:
"Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter." – Proverbs 6:6-8 (NLT)
Reflection:
Every season carries opportunities for preparation. Like ants storing food for winter, we must be intentional about planning and stewarding our time, resources, and opportunities. Seasons of preparation ensure seasons of provision.
Whether as a student, parent, or leader, preparation today shapes our outcomes tomorrow. Don’t let laziness or procrastination rob you of the blessings that come from being ready for what’s ahead.
Questions to Reflect On:
- Do I plan my days, weeks, and months, or do I leave things to chance?
- Do I give myself enough margin, or am I always rushing at the last minute?
Prayer Points:
- Lord, help me recognize and seize the opportunities in each season.
- Lord, teach me to be a good steward of my time, resources, and responsibilities.
- Lord, help me overcome habits that hinder my ability to prepare effectively.
Let’s maximize today, prepare for tomorrow, and honor God in every season!

Proverbs Day 7: “Flee, Don’t Flirt”
Scripture:
"While I was at the window of my house, looking through the curtain, I saw some naive young men, and one in particular who lacked common sense. He was crossing the street near the house of an immoral woman, strolling down the path by her house." – Proverbs 7:6-8 (NLT)
"He followed her at once, like an ox going to the slaughter… little knowing it would cost him his life." – Proverbs 7:22-23 (NLT)
Reflection:
The grass always seems greener on the other side, but often, it’s just a mirage. Proverbs 7 paints a sobering picture of a young man wandering near temptation, unaware of the danger ahead. He strolls instead of fleeing, drawn in by enticing promises that lead to destruction.
This mirrors the warnings from Proverbs 5: “Stay Away from the Edge”. These repeated cautions emphasize one thing: Don’t walk close to the edge. Don’t see how far you can go without falling. Instead, FLEE.
Temptation doesn’t display its consequences upfront. It lures us with flattery and false promises. Wisdom says: Stay far away. Don’t entertain it. Don’t negotiate with it.
Take a moment to revisit the earlier devotionals from Proverbs 5 and 6—they build a clear and consistent warning. Repetition isn’t accidental; it’s God calling us to lean in and listen closely.
Questions to Reflect On:
- Am I strolling near situations I know I should be avoiding?
- Do I recognize repeated warnings in my life and act on them?
Prayer Points:
- Lord, help me to recognize and respond to Your repeated warnings.
- Lord, may Your Word be deeply rooted in my heart, guarding me from sin.
- Lord, give me the courage to flee from temptation instead of flirting with it.

Proverbs Day 8: “Choose Wisdom Over Right”
Scripture:
"I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. Common sense and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine. Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments." – Proverbs 8:12-16 (NLT)
Reflection:
Not everything that’s right is wise. It might be right for me to spend all my money, but is it wise for my financial future? Wisdom teaches us to look beyond immediate gratification and consider long-term outcomes.
This principle applies to every area of life:
• In relationships, wisdom asks, Is this friendship helping me grow, or pulling me away from my values?
• In time management, wisdom asks, Am I investing my time in what truly matters, or wasting it on distractions?
• In words, wisdom asks, Should I speak now, or is silence the wiser choice?
When we choose wisdom, we’re not guaranteed a problem-free life, but our chances of success, stability, and peace increase significantly.
When we walk in wisdom, we invite success, discernment, and good judgment into our lives. Our choices become intentional, and our lives bear the fruit of those wise decisions.
Questions to Reflect On:
1. Am I choosing what’s wise over what’s merely right in my decisions?
2. Do I evaluate the long-term consequences of my choices?
Prayer Points:
• Lord, let wisdom guide my actions, words, and priorities daily.
• Lord, teach me to choose the wise thing over the convenient or immediate option.
Let’s live intentionally, choosing wisdom in every decision we make.

Proverbs Day 9: “Focus Your Investment – Don’t Throw Pearls to Swine"
Scripture:
"Don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you. Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more." – Proverbs 9:8-9 (NLT)
Reflection:
Jesus said, "Do not throw your pearls to swine" (Matthew 7:6). Wisdom is like a pearl—precious, valuable, and meant for those who will cherish and act on it. Investing wisdom in someone who mocks or dismisses it is like giving treasure to someone who doesn’t recognize its worth.
Proverbs echoes this truth: correcting a mocker leads to insults, but correcting the wise brings love and growth. Time, energy, and wisdom are limited resources—invest them where they’ll produce fruit. Focus on those with teachable hearts, a willingness to learn, and a desire for growth.
When we instruct and invest in the wise, we multiply our impact. Wisdom given to the right people doesn’t just benefit them—it ripples outward into their relationships, decisions, and influence.
Let’s honor wisdom, share it intentionally, and remain teachable ourselves.
Questions to Reflect On:
- Am I investing my wisdom and time in people who value it?
- Do I have a teachable heart, ready to receive correction and instruction?
Prayer Points:
- Lord, help me discern where to invest my wisdom and energy.
- Lord, give me a teachable heart and a mindset that seeks growth.
- Lord, guide me to people who will value wisdom and use it to honor You.

Proverbs Day 10: “Don’t Set the World Ablaze – Measure Your Words”
Scripture:
"Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut." – Proverbs 10:19 (NLT)
"If you keep talking, it won’t be long before you’re saying something really wrong. Prove you’re wise from the very start—just bite your tongue and be strong!" – Proverbs 10:19 (TPT)
Reflection:
Proverbs 10 highlights the contrasting outcomes of a righteous life versus a wicked one, showing how our choices and words impact our lives and relationships. The tongue has immense power—uncontrolled speech can lead to harm, regret, and broken trust.
A Shona saying, “Unofanirwa kumarwa nenunzi pamuromo,” literally translated as, “A fly should land on your mouth,”emphasizes keeping your mouth shut. The imagery suggests that when your mouth is closed and silent, even a fly can land, reflecting composure, restraint, and the wisdom of silence. It teaches us to avoid unnecessary chatter and to maintain discretion, especially when trusted with sensitive information.
Pausing before speaking prevents destructive outbursts and fosters peace. When we measure our words, we reflect God’s character and build trust in our relationships.
Questions to Reflect On:
- On a scale of 1-10, how well do I control my tongue?
- Do I pause and think before I speak, or do I share too freely?
- Can I be trusted to keep confidence and avoid revealing secrets?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to control my tongue and use my words with wisdom. Teach me to be trustworthy, quick to listen, and slow to speak. Let my words reflect Your character and bring peace. Amen.
Let’s tame our tongues, speak with wisdom, and bring life with our words.
